Prendendo le mosse da un passo di Ammiano Marcellino (XIV 11,25), che lascia emergere un’evidente sovrapposizione tra la figura di Adrasteia e quella Nemesis, il contributo si propone di esaminare le ragioni che hanno condotto le due potenze ad essere indicate l’una come l’eteronimo dell’altra. This paper analyzes a matter of polytheistic semantics in the Greek Classical age since the process of naming gods and heroes. Two case studies are compared. The first focuses on the Homeric Hymn to Apollo where the examination of different forms of poetic proferation of divine allows to explain strategies and procedures for the integration of a new deity in the pantheon. The second case study aims to examine in the Euripides drama Erechtheus how changes in the naming of Gods could reflect a new political situation leading to a functional and cultual redefinition of tutelary gods in Athens.

L'articolo propone una rilettura dell'epilogo del logos siciliano, incluso nel settimo libro delle Storie di Erodoto. L'episodio racconta la visita degli ambasciatori greci alla corte di Gelone, tiranno di Siracusa, che giunsero in Sicilia per chiedere il suo aiuto contro l'imminente attacco dei persiani. Un riesame del dialogo tra gli ambasciatori e il siracusano permette una reinterpretazione della frase finale con cui Gelone congeda gli ambasciatori greci, diversa da quella che si ritrova nei commenti ad Erodoto. It is above all in the archaic cultures, when the discrimen between religious and political facts is not yet clearly defined and there lacks an autonomous law system, which the oath discloses its irreplaceable role which supports the memory, safeguarding social dynamics in all its public or private forms. The wealth of the cases presented in the Histories by Herodotus offers a phenomenology of the oath, useful to illustrate the mechanisms and the coherent symbolic universe of reference.
